Lerins islands that are situated in open sea not far from the city of Cannes consist of Saint Honorat Island and Sainte Marguerite Island. In the beginning of the Vth century AD Saint Honorat searching for calm and solitary life founded a monastery on this archipelago. The monastery exists nowadays.

At present the Lerins abbey that belongs to the Cistercian order counts 21 monks who respect all the commandments of Saint Benoit and spend their time in prayers, work and studies.

Although the monks lead a secluded life, they are ready to receive visitors and give them possibility to:

• take a walk on the island and discover its beauty, its unique flora and fauna that are protected by the French government;
• visit the Fortified Monastery that is f historical monument;
• see round ancient chapels situated along the edges of the island;
• purchase some articles produced in the Lerins abbey and other monasteries in a shop on the island (wines, spirits, olive oil, books, souvenirs, biscuits, chocolate, oils, cosmetics).

The monks are involved in several types of economic activities:

• production of liqueurs since XIX c.;
• co-running of the restaurant La Tonnelle (situated on the island);
• production of astonishing wines since Middle Ages;
• production of olive oil.

All the processes of wine production are carried out manually by the monks, besides they do not refer to chemical fertilizers to preserve the ecosystem of the island.

The wine has already created a furor in the whole world: the abbey’s products serve in the best restaurants of France. The monastery’s wines have been awarded a gold medal during an international contest of Syrah wines of the 2005 vintage and were served up at high-level dinners in the coarse of the summit G20 that was held in Cannes from 3 till 4 of November 2011, the wine was already served to jury members of the Film Festival.
